In YouTube’s “Interview with the President” on January 27th, President Obama answered the concerns of many veterans when he responded to a video question from an Afghanistan veteran concerning their employment after return to civilian life.
He made note of the efforts being made to take skills acquired during service and transferring them to civilian, or government positions. Commending veterans for their service and dedication, President Obama cited the importance of valuing veterans as an asset in the rebuilding of our country, encouraging others, especially employers to do the same.
The President also made note of the importance that he places on government funded agencies and programs to hire veterans for federal jobs that they qualify for, again in recognition of their service and the transferable skills they attained in the military. It is clear that Obama wishes to make sure that veterans in our country are employed and shown thanks for their years of service by being aided in the transition from military to civilian work and it was refreshing to see this issue being the first one tackled by the President in his interview.
